Capturing the Experience

Capturing the experience of self, in a natural state, away from the noise of constructed worlds, is a very different thing than just painting what you see. You have to let go of the noise, before you can even be open to the experience; and then you can’t think about what you’re painting, you just have to paint it. As soon as you try to examine the process, second guess your marks, you’ve lost the experience, and you enter back into the constructed world. I spend a lot of time watching the sun move across the horizon. The natural rhythm of it is grounding. Time seems to flow like a river, and you get caught in the exchange of the days and nights like a great song that pulls you onto the dance floor.
