Middle Journey

Where a new body of work often begins… It’s fuzzy at first, buried in my subconscious, a feeling perhaps, then it begins to take form in a word. That word will float around in my thoughts for days, and then another word, and another, until it all starts to coalesce into a cohesive thought… And that’s how this new work began. I think mostly I was searching for quiet, uncluttered thought, something that brought peace and gentle joy. The first word I started with was “middle”. Middle has been an important word for me for as long as I can remember. I think of it in different ways… It’s neutral, and open to change. It doesn’t belong to a side. But it’s also that place between, between moments, between the distance, between the beginning and the end. It’s a difficult place to define, and yet it’s where we spend most of our time, where the journey resides… … And from there my list of words grew, and I named the first work “Middle Journey.
